Radio America
Star Guide via ABC
Dear
Affiliate,
As you
may have heard, most major commercial radio networks are
replacing the current satellite technology with a more
robust and reliable system called Starguide Digital. The SEDAT technology is outdated and will be no longer
supported by its manufacturer.
This
means that your current receiver will have to be replaced
with a StarGuide III receiver no later than June 30, 2001.
Radio
America will continue to transmit programming without
interruption on the Satcom C5 replacement of GE-8,
transponder 15, SEDAT channel 10-1, 7.5 khz through June 30,
2001.
Effective
April 1, 2001, all Radio America programs will also be
transmitted via StarGuide.
You can tune in to our program via StarGuide as
follows:
Satellite
Coordinates:
GE-8, transponder 17
StarGuide
Coordinates:
A) Provider:
ABC NY
B)
Channel ID:
RADIOA / TRN1
(tune to the left channel)
In addition to Star Guide, Radio America will also
continue to provide programming on Galaxy 6 Transponder 3,
Channel 63.3. For
any stations that will not be able to acquire a Star Guide
receiver by June 30 or are not able to take Radio
America’s Galaxy signal, please inquire with the Radio
America affiliate staff for alternatives.
StarGuide
III receivers shipped by ABC to ABC Radio Network affiliates
and affiliates of customers serviced by ABC Satellite
Services will automatically tune to the satellite and
transponder and will
be pre-authorized to receive the Radio America’s StarGuide
channel.
If
your Star Guide III receiver was provided by ABC Radio
Network or ABC Satellite Services, you only need to select
the provider and channel on the receiver.
Stations that acquired
receivers from a source other than ABC or are unable to
receive the Radio America’s StarGuide channel must call
ABC Affiliate Services at 212-456-5000, option 4 to receive
authorization.
If you do not take “ABC branded” programming such as ABC News, Paul
Harvey, Bob Brinker, ESPN, etc., we have arranged with our provider, ABC Satellite Services, to make StarGuide receivers
available to you at the price of $2,400.
The receiver will include two audio decoder module
cards and one net-cue. Please complete the receiver
order form and return to Barbara Moriarty with your payment.
You can access the Receiver Purchase Request Form by
going to this link on our web site (http://www.radioamerica.org/starguidepurchase.htm)
